John
John was looking for a way to get a new health card but didn’t know where to start. On the recommendation of his niece, John found his way to SEED. SEED staff helped him to obtain his photo ID and birth certificate through the Access to Benefits program. With his IDs in hand, John was able to get his health coverage renewed.
Marissa
“It helped me a lot. I was able to buy a car, catch up on bills, and get some stuff for my kids… I’m happy that I worked with SEED or else I wouldn’t have anything.”
Marissa came to SEED hoping to file her tax return. During her appointment, SEED staff identified that Marissa had not received the Canada Child Benefit for her two children for over two years. Marissa and SEED staff worked together to file taxes and access retroactive Canada Child Benefit payments.
Meaghan
“Jennifer was like an angel to me. Without her in my time of need, I would not have been able to complete it on my own. SEED is a great organization.”
Overwhelmed when her Canada Child Benefit was suddenly cut off in November 2022, Meaghan didn’t know where to turn. Working with SEED, Meaghan discovered that Canada Revenue Agency had done a random review of her file. SEED helped Meaghan submit all the necessary documents and her Canada Child Benefit, including backpay for the missed payments, was reinstated.
Sherry
Sherry reconnected with SEED’s Access to Benefits because of her son. Prior to the program, she was unaware he was eligible for disability benefits.
Sherry has been connected with SEED in a number of different ways over the past 25 years. She first learned about SEED through people in her neighbourhood and the North End Women’s Centre.
Manan
Owning their own home has made Manan and his family feel stronger, “it gives my kids a better future. It’s given me a new direction.”
In 2020, Manan was accepted into the ICH Program and soon realized that he had no idea how to navigate buying a house. The program helped Manan understand what was involved in buying a home.
Elija
Although he had some experience in sales, SEED staff taught Elija all the steps he needed to know to open a business.
As a newcomer to Canada, Elija dreamed of starting his own business. He wasn’t sure where to begin, until he found out about SEED’s Business & Enterprise Support & Training (BEST) program.
