About Empower Manitoba
Originally founded in 2006, Empower Manitoba is a partnership of organizations that work to deliver financial empowerment programs and services in Manitoba. While the initial focus was on delivering matched savings programs, Empower Manitoba has expanded to encompass a full range of financial empowerment activities, including:
- Access to identification
- Banking referrals
- Benefits navigation
- Financial coaching / counselling
- Matched savings and debt reduction
- Money Management Training and learning opportunities
- Registered Education Savings (RESP) and Registered Disability Saving Plan (RDSP) support
- Tax filing
Empower Manitoba and the Manitoba Financial Empowerment Network (MFEN) are separate but connected entities with common goals to expand the scale, scope, and impact of financial empowerment initiatives in Manitoba. Empower Manitoba serves as a program delivery collaborative and MFEN as a cross-sectoral collaborative working towards broader systems change. Collectively, these two entities strive to improve the financial well-being of Manitobans living on low levels of income. This work is guided by evidence-informed practice, including the Five Pillars of Financial Empowerment, Collective Impact, and the Sustainable Livelihoods model.
